Yes Gemma Burley has got those elusive points for her promotion to 2nd Dan. She took off to the grading at Harlow last
weekend with all the family in tow to give her support. At first it looked like it might be a wasted journey as no other 1st
dans were there but at the last minute a girl turned up to fight. As this meant only one fight Gemma had to really go
for it, and in true Gemma style she did it, the faithfull left handed seo-nage scoring an ippon for a 10 point win. She only
needed 5 points but then Gemma never does anything by halves. Well done Gemma you deserve it.
Nick Wilkins gets 3rd Dan at last
Well done to Nick who hadnt graded for 20 years, in fact when he opened his license Im sure a load of moths flew out.
He made the journey down to High Wycombe last weekend hoping that enough 2nd dans would be there. There was but I think
I am right in thinking he beat a 3rd Dan as well. But even though his points previous to this were won in the early 80`s.
Nick hadnt lost any of his competitive spirit or ability winning four of the five fights with an ippon. It was just like
turning the clock back. What next for Nick then, well it would not suprise me now to see him going for 4th Dan one bit.
Congratulations to Nick Humphrey
Yes Nick has finally got his Black Belt. Achieved at the Bedford Grading a few weeks ago with in the opinion
of both the referee and examiner the best throw of the day. Nick only needed one fight to get the neccessary elusive points
for his 1st Dan, the other guy looked quite useful but Nick despatched him with a brilliant Ura - nage in 10
seconds for the ippon. Well done Nick.
And lets not forget Andy Tate who was promoted to 1st kyu at the same grading. 1st Dan next then Andy?
