We had quite a busy year last year. We held two non-competitive gradings for the children, which were very successful. For the ones who were graded up to 6th mon, they were encouraged to take
the next step and go to a competitive grading in We also had a number of children compete
in competitions at High Wycombe and at We are still working towards our Club mark,
most things are done, and we are just waiting to go on two courses so we can put those certificates into the folder. Once we have achieved this award it will be an accreditation for our judo club and
it will make our club more inviting and professional than those who haven’t got this award. Just before Christmas we moved from St
Luke’s School in Duston to Carlsberg Social Club. I was very unsure about
this and believed we would loose many of our members. I was proved wrong, thank
goodness, and we have retained a lot of people and have had some new ones join. At present we have 90 members and 32 of
those people joined within the last year. Since gaining my coaching award in 1999
I have been recording the lesson plans before and after each lesson for the junior class.
This provides the coaches with some sort of structure and means we can look back to see what we have taught and how
we have taught it. In summer 2006, Nick Wilkins ran a very
successful judo holiday club which I assisted him with. We managed to provide
children with basic judo skills and offered them the chance to be part of our judo club.
We still have some of those children with us today. With the money we
made from this, we were able to buy t-shirts and badges with our club logo on (which are still available to buy). For those that don’t know, our club logo was designed by Luke Turtill. We were asked to do a judo display at We have now had many qualified coaches,
coaching assistants and qualified competition officials. The qualified coaching
team are: Myself, Dave, Nick H, John ,Nick W, Bruce, Brian, Clive. We have Walter
Merino who is a very experienced coaching assistant. The qualified examiners
and referees are myself and Dave. Recently John, Bruce, Nick W and I went
on a course called “A Club for All”. We learnt how to make our club
more accessible, no matter the gender, religion, disability, skin colour etc of a person so we are here to offer judo to anyone
and everyone. We are also due to go on a child protection course and an equity
in coaching course. I have taken on the role of child protection
officer with Brian helping me when needed. The notice board comes out of the cupboard
every week and is usually positioned by the door. On the notice board is our
club constitution, the club rules and other information such as competition results.
If anyone would like to put anything on the notice board, please let me know. Dave has created a fantastic website; there
is loads of information and photos old and new. Well done to everyone who has renewed their
membership to the Carlsberg social club but for those that haven’t, you need to apply for it to be allowed to use the
social are. The cost is about £5 and only one person from each family needs to
join. The BJA have announced trial rule changes
for 2007 for the juniors. (Read out changes) |
